International unveils its new performance truck |

International Trucks has recently unveiled its newest product, a medium-duty vehicle of the 4000 series that is destined to do mostly delivery work. Other than a totally redesigned look, the truck is considered the very first High Performance vehicle in its class. This does not mean the truck has racing abilities. No, it means that it is built to help the user get the most of the truck with the least expense possible. Actually, the way International designed the truck, the company thinks it can provide some $4,000 to $6,000 in operating savings compared to the previous medium-duty products of the same manufacturer. First available only in the 4000 series, the philosophy will be carried to the rest of the line-up including bigger trucks in a near future. For the moment being, the truck is powered by a new DT466 or DT530 six-cylinder engines that gives more responsive pedal and faster starts including the Intuitive Shifting controllers specially engineered for the combination of the International I-6 engine and an Allison automatic transmission.
International claims the new truck will give increased driver control, better reliability and fuel economy. Its new lighter but stronger frame should offer better resistance bending moment, all this ending in a better stability and handling and also, a smoother ride. Inside, International worked on driver comfort and better ergonomics. The set-back axle will offer much better maneuvrability. Driver entry and egress have been improved with lower steps, wider door opening and better positioned grab handles.
Finally, International uses the first multiplexed electrical system that allows the engine, the transmission, the cab and the body to “talk” to each other. What International is looking at right now is to helps operators reduce their down time.
