AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 25 /CNW/ -- The Chrysler Group and its dealers are in the process of notifying nearly 11,000 customers of a voluntary recall on 2001 model year Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler Voyager, Dodge Caravan and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built between March 22 and April 21 of 2001. Recalled vehicles sold to customers represent just three percent of the approximately 350,000 all-new 2001 minivans produced since last July. This recall affects vehicles delivered after March 22 in North America, including some 9,000 vehicles sold to customers in the United States and an additional 1,900 sold to customers in Canada. No vehicles affected by the recall have been sold outside of North America. A bolt on the lower control arm of the front suspension can break, resulting in a loss of vehicle control. The company discovered several supplier shipments of bolts which were not manufactured to proper specifications during this period. Six customers have reported control arm issues stemming from the faulty bolts. There have been no reported accidents or injuries. Owners of recalled vehicles are urged not to drive them. The vehicles will be picked up by dealers at no cost to the consumer and service technicians will replace the bolt with a new part. Alternate transportation will be provided by the dealer at no cost. Customers with recalled vehicles will be contacted by dealers directly. Customers can check the production date of their vehicle which is noted on a sticker located on the frame of the driver door opening. The sticker lists an MDH build number (Month, Day, Hour) and any vehicle with a build date prior to 03-22 or after 04-21 is not affected by the recall. Customers with recall questions may also contact the DaimlerChrysler Recall Center at 1-800-853-1403 to verify their vehicle's status using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is a 17 digit code located on the top of the driver's side dashboard and is most readily visible through the windshield. The recall is limited to vehicles built during the one-month period and includes vehicles built at both the St. Louis South (Missouri) and Windsor (Ontario) plants. Vehicles produced at DaimlerChrysler's Graz, Austria plant are not affected by the recall.
