OAKVILLE, ON, May 1 /CNW/ - Canadians drove home 23,072 new Ford and Lincoln vehicles in April, a 10.9 per cent drop from last April. However, truck sales last month increased 2.3 per cent to 15,863 units, while car sales decreased 30.7 per cent to 7,209 units. "Growth in the sport utility vehicle segment continues to spur a strong truck industry in Canada," said Torrey Galida, vice president of marketing, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited. "Consumers are increasingly choosing the versatility of SUVs which now account for more than one-quarter of truck sales in Canada." Ford Explorer had its second-best April sales performance in its 10-year history. "And now that the all-new 2002 Ford Explorer is widely available, we expect its smooth ride and roominess to really grab the attention of a broad range of SUV shoppers," Galida added. April Highlights - Ford Explorer sales of 1,660 units mark its second-best April sales performance ever. - The Ford Escape scored its second-best sales month since its launch in September with 1,374 units sold in April. - Ford and Lincoln SUV sales rose 54 per cent in April compared to the previous April.
